Nanaimo Core Services Review eTown Hall Coming Sept. 12

August 25, 2016

NANAIMO – Nanaimo residents wishing to provide feedback on the City’s Core Services Review Final Report can now do so by participating in an upcoming eTown Hall meeting scheduled for September 12, starting at 7:00pm in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

The event follows the tradition of introducing a topic for discussion between Council members and the public, but unlike conventional town hall meetings, Nanaimo’s eTown Hall format enables wider involvement by allowing participants to submit questions via social media, the City website, phone call, mail as well as in person.

The Core Service Review represents an opportunity to compile a clear foundation of information about the current state of the city’s services and programs; how these services and programs have changed over time; and what services and programs may, or may not, be desired going forward.

During the meeting, residents will be invited to supply feedback on the review’s 11 recommendation areas – strategic plan, policy framework, staff capacity, finance policies, IT infrastructure, integrated maintenance, integrated purchasing, performance measures, community partnerships, grant mandates/monitoring and efficiencies and streamlining.

The September 12 eTown Hall meeting will commence at the beginning of the regular 7:00pm Council meeting and will run for two hours. If feedback runs past 9:00pm, the meeting may be extended to continue the conversation.

Once a review is completed, a report is prepared for Council containing options outlining how challenges may be undertaken and how opportunities can be achieved. Council was presented with a final copy of the Core Services Review on May 27, 2016.
