September 29, 2016

NANAIMO & VICTORIA – The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has announced the winners of the 2016 Canadian Shopping Centre Awards in Toronto on September 21, 2016, recognizing Canada’s most innovative shopping centres for outstanding achievement across marketing, development and design, and retail store design categories.

ICSC has named Mayfair Shopping Centre & Woodgrove Centre as a Silver Award winner in the multi-centre channel marketing category for their “Gift the Island” campaign. In addition, Mayfair received a second Silver Award for “Fleurs de Villes” in the Sales Promotion & Event category in partnership with Oakridge Centre in Vancouver.

Mayfair Shopping Centre and Woodgrove Centre rolled out a co-branded gift card pilot program to stimulate sales, entitled “Gift the Island” in December 2015. Contests built excitement while a multimedia campaign engaged shoppers through all channels, including a holiday-themed social media photo contest.
Mayfair Shopping Centre and Oakridge Centre joined forces to present “Fleurs de Villes”, a one-of-a-kind bespoke floral exhibition that was presented for the first time in the world.

Thirty-two exquisite floral-dressed mannequins were created and displayed through a unique collaboration of BC florists.

“We are very proud to win this prestigious award from our industry and we are happy to share this honour with Mayfair,” shared Julia Dow, General Manager of Woodgrove Centre. Mayfair Shopping Centre’s General Manager, Laura Poland added, “It was very exciting to implement two first-to-market events on Vancouver Island including the Fleurs de Villes launch event at Mayfair. To be recognized is very special.”

The 2016 ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards competition was open to shopping centre owners, developers, management companies, architects and designers, and retailers. ICSC announced the winners during an awards ceremony at the ICSC Canadian Convention in Toronto.

All 2016 Gold award recipients receive automatic entry into the 2017 ICSC VIVA Awards, the international program that honours the retail real estate industry’s most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions, and creative responses to market trends. ICSC will announce the victors of the VIVA Awards during RECon 2017 in Las Vegas.
