Federal Election – Helping Citizens Choose Their Right Candidate

September 1, 2015

KAMLOOPS – To quote Maclean’s magazine, “(m)uch has been made of the fact that the 2015 federal election campaign will be Canada’s longest since the 19th century, when horse-powered ballot delivery necessitated voting periods that stretched over several months. But even if technology has improved, an 11-week campaign can still be put to good use today in the 21st century.” We agree.

The Kamloops Chamber approaches each election with the goal of educating the public on the various candidates vying for their vote, and an extended campaign allows a great opportunity to do just so.

In our last municipal election, the chamber introduced a video survey of candidates to help the public understand the candidates’ positions on issues that were important to our business community. Based on the success of that project, we have expanded this to include provincial and federal elections/candidates as well.

In addition to holding a roundtable session and member surveys, we have created an online form to collect “burning business issues” from our members and the community. These issues will be crafted into questions which will be asked of each candidate in video-recorded interviews. These unedited interviews will be posted on our website after September 21st so that you will be able to view each candidate and hear their answers to the questions that are important to you.

With such an important decision on the horizon, we believe that providing more opportunities tobecome educated on the platforms and positions of our local candidates will help you to make aninformed decision at the ballot booth.
